We often tend to see the ego as an enemy.
Something that needs to be silenced, overcome or even eliminated.
Yet the ego is not our adversary.
It’s a natural part of ourselves.
A part that seeks, above all, to protect us.
In conscious breathing and breathwork, we often discover that understanding the ego is an essential step towards regaining inner balance.

The ego: a protective mechanism
The ego is born of our experiences.
Our wounds.
Our fears.
Our conditioning.
Our expectations.
Its objective is simple:
to keep us safe.
Sometimes it pushes us to :
- proving our worth
- success at all costs
- be perfect
- keep control
He often whispers:
“Be careful.”
” Don’t show too much.”
” Be impeccable.”
” Don’t make mistakes.”
Without even realizing it, we can spend years guided by these inner voices.
Psychologists often describe the ego as the mind’s mechanism for adapting to life’s experiences.

When the ego takes up too much space
The ego becomes difficult to live with when it distances us from our true nature.
This happens when :
- we constantly seek external validation
- we’re afraid of judgment
- we want to control everything
- we put ourselves under constant pressure
At such times, the ego can generate :
- stress
- anxiety
- inner tensions
But that’s not because it’s bad.
It’s simply because he’s trying to protect us from a fear.
The practice of conscious breathing can help calm this mental mechanism.
Learning to live with your ego
The path is not to suppress the ego.
The way is to observe it.
When we step back, something changes profoundly:
We realize that we are not our ego.
We become the consciousness that observes it.
This is where :
- inner freedom
- mental peace
- presence
This approach is also used in many meditative and therapeutic practices.

Breath as a space of truth
In my breathwork sessions in Geneva, something powerful often happens.
The mind calms down.
The defences come down.
And behind the ego appears something deeper:
our essence.
A space where we no longer need :
- to prove
- to be perfect
- control
Just :
breathe
feel
be
Scientific research also shows that conscious breathing helps to regulate the nervous system and reduce stress.

A question for you today
Take a moment.
Take a deep breath.
And ask yourself:
What situation is my ego trying to protect me from right now?
Then simply add :
Thank you for wanting to protect me.
But I can also choose to be free.
Mantra of the day
I’m not fighting my ego.
I listen to him.
I understand him.
And I return to my breath.
✨
To breathe is to come back to oneself.
