CONTRAINDICATIONS

Reiki and Breathwork practitioners, including Daphne Polliand, operate according to the following guidelines:

  • Practitioners do not diagnose, prescribe substances, carry out medical treatments or interfere with treatments provided by licensed medical professionals.
  • Reiki and Breathwork sessions should not be used as a substitute for consulting a doctor or psychotherapist. It is recommended that you consult your healthcare professional for any medical or therapeutic concerns.
  • Reiki and Breathwork are complementary practices that can enhance the effectiveness of other types of healing and therapeutic treatments.
  • If you’re in good health, regular Reiki and Breathwork sessions can potentially strengthen your ability to cope with stress and serve as preventive medicine.

This practice is not recommended for some people:

  • Please note that if you have a history of cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, retinal detachment, severe mental illness, epileptic seizures, advanced osteoporosis, recent physical injury or major surgery, asthma (bring your inhaler) or are pregnant, these intense breathing practices can potentially exacerbate your condition. If you have any doubts, we strongly advise you not to try this breathing style without first consulting your doctor or contacting Daphné Polliand for further information.

Considerations specific to Breathwork :

  • Breathwork is beneficial for releasing stress, increasing physical and mental stamina, and improving general well-being. It can also help release blocked emotions and traumas.
  • Breathwork is not a relaxation technique, but rather a physical, mental and emotional challenge. It involves high-intensity practice, similar to intense physical training. It involves high-intensity practice, similar to intense physical training.
If your doctor has advised against this type of activity, or if you have any health problems that may be exacerbated by intense breathing exercises, we strongly recommend that you do not try Breathwork without consulting your doctor first.
  • Here’s what you can ask your doctor, pointing out the other contraindications: “Would it be possible for me to practice a Breathwork exercise similar to Holotropic Breathing, in which I will be accompanied by an expert teacher for the duration of the session? The exercise involves lying on your back and breathing through your mouth for around 30 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of relaxation with natural, nasal breathing. This can lead to controlled hyperventilation, uncomfortable physical sensations, emotional release and potentially induce an altered state of consciousness. I’d like to make sure it’s safe given my medical history and the other contraindications mentioned.”
  • A quick reminder: during Breathwork practice, if you experience heart palpitations, dizziness, nausea, tingling or other sensations, please know that these reactions are completely normal and part of the Breathwork experience. You can always stop breathing through your mouth and go back to breathing naturally through your nose.
